I am a 21 yr. old living with Diabetes. I have known I have it for about 13 years and have never taken good care of myself. I always knew that this was wrong and horrible for my health but have never worked hard and making taking care of my... well disease... a real priority. Now as I approach my 22nd birthday I have FINALLY decided it's time. I have realized how many things I have to really live for now, the problem is, I can't get myself in the habit of testing and taking my insulin regularly as I should. So basically I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice, like what helps you remember to do it. I just forget so much... please... don't come on here and critisize or make fun, genuinely I'm asking, no begging, for your help... thank you... ~Heather~

Hi Heather, My name is Kathy. I am a T2 on insulin and metformin. I do fine with the insulin but many days I get to bedtime and see or remember that I have forgotten the metformin. I did not do this before adding the insulin. I always announce to whoever that I am taking my metformin and that keeps me on track but lately it isn't working. Now I am going back to my beginnings with T2. Routinely take my meds at the same time and in the same location. I also keep a journal, marking down when I have done this. I find writing down my meds, foods, moods, and brief health update keeps me on track much better than always figuring I can keep it all in my head. This all becomes so routine that one day blends into the next and I get to questioning myself about what I did or didn't do. Kinda like the wonderful daily birth controle pills pre daily dispenser. LOL Easy to stump ourselves, did I or didn't I???? Good luck and Keep your health a priority. Kathy

Heather it sounds like you need a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator). A CDE will help you get into the routine to help manage your bgs...aadenet.org is the website to find a CDE if you live in the U.S.
