What are Your Top 10 Natural/Alternative Supplements for Lowering Blood Sugar

I thought it would be helpful to all of us if we started a forum on what we believed to be the top 10 non prescription supplements for lowering blood sugar.  Please put them in order of importance, number 1 being the most effective supplement.  Supplements are any non-prescription herbs, vitamins, etc.

If you do not have 10, just add what you feel is the best.

There are so many recmmended supplements out there and it is all very confusing to me.  My hope is that this forum will clear up some of the confusion.

The best thing is simply to take a multivitamin that is specially formulated for diabetics rather than trying to create your own "cocktail" .   They balance all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants along with the specialty supplements you don't find in "general Market" vitamins like Centrum (like alpha lipoic acid).   I find that the multi's in the vitamin section of most drugstores just don't cut it.   I buy mine at Walgreens near the glucose tabs and lancets.  Its in a bright green and yellow box, and I'm pretty sure its called Multibetic.   I really like that its the most potent formula I can find and yet the pills are small and easy to swallow.

I agree with Nikki, a multi-vitamin is very important for diabetics.  I have a list of supplements that I take every day.  It's about 10 pills, but my doctor recommends it.  The important thing to remember about supplements that even though some are good for diabetics, you have to make sure you're getting enough theraputic doses of it, otherwise it won't be as effective.  So the ones I'm taking (and in no specific order) are alpha lipoic acid, multi-vitamin (2), coenzyme Q-10, chromium (yeast free), EPA (2), borage oil, and clinical strength eye formula (2) (to prevent retinapothy).  All of these products are Now Foods products.  They're good quality and have good enough therapeutic doses. I think you can buy them at any health food store, maybe even cvs or walgreens.  I hope this helps!

Hello, I do not have diabetes but it is very common in my family so I have been interested in this topic for a while. It is also beneficial for anyone trying to maintain a healthy weight to keep their insulin resistance down. Here is what I have found: Stevia... a natural sweetener from the stevia plant (30x sweeter than sugar)... actually stabilizes blood sugar rather than spiking it. I also has other health benefits and apparently it is good for your teeth.. a few drops will sweeten your tea... you can also get powder form... it is the best thing ever!! So much better than the toxic chemical sweeteners like aspertame, sucralose, equal etc... those are all neurotoxins and linked to many health problems they also increase your craving for sweets and carbs. get Stevia at health food stores, you will LOVE it!! Cinnamon... cinnamon actually mimicks insulin and reduces the need for it, it has a real effect on insulin resistance so be sure to monitor your blood sugar carefully when you start using it. Eating it with fruit or something sweet will help reduce the spike in bloodsugar from the sweets. I love it sprinkled on apple slices! Inulin (from chicory root) also know as FOS is amazing stuff it is a prebiotic fiber, it feeds the good bacteria in your intestines, and it gives you a stable constant source of energy.. without the calories. Also keeps you regular and keeps blood sugar more stable.(recomended for diabetics) Try FIBERrific by "Pure-le natural" it comes with a probiotic combo... best thing ever, vanishes in water.. slight sweet taste. Gives you amazing endurance for a long workout. Omega 3 fish oil, from small fish.. make sure it is tested for mercury etc... Everyone needs this stuff... so important for good cholesterol levels, brain function and overall health, my diabetic grandma has been taking it and it helped to lower her insulin resistance. of course eat lots of living foods, green vegetables etc. uncooked produce has enzymes intact and increases your health and life force! Cooking your veggies kills the enzymes and much of the nutrients are destroyed.Look into it for yourself! I like a green smoothy in the morning I blend: 1 banana, a little water, lots of organic spinach, wheatgrass, frozen mixed berries, stevia, whey or hemp protein (not soy)...yummy and energizing! Try sprouting!! It is the most amazing source of living nutritious and fresh food.I use the biosta sprouter...make sure you get good quality seeds intended for sprouting... works like a charm! Avoid soy... soy can screw up your thyroid.. making you hypothyroid.. this will slow your metabolism and make you gain weight, worsening your health situation. It has many other bioactive and scary side effects...AVOID IT. Fermented soy is OK but only once in a while. Best thing you can do is build some muscle, anywhere you can... your legs have the biggest muscles in your body so that would be a good place to start... simple as doing squats everyday... (keep your body upright and point toes out slightly) this has a strong effect on insulin resistance... gives your body the ability to regulate itself. Good luck and stay positive... if you try hard enough you can reverse diabetes by lowering your insulin resistance! Be sure to work with a health professional when reducing your insulin and using natural products because they can have a real effect! www.mercola.com... is a great place for health advice.. check it out!

Drinking plenty of water is another way to lower blood sugar levels. Drinking at least eight glasses of water per day will also flush harmful toxins from the body, help with weight loss, and keep the skin healthy. Recent research has shown that certain herbs can help lower blood sugar levels as well. Taking ginseng after meals has been shown to regulate blood sugar levels. Other helpful herbs include yarrow, huckleberries, cinnamon powder, and licorice extract.

I was diabetic taking medication 500mg 2 to 3 times per day for 6 years. I started taking a stem cell enhancer, and no longer have to take any medication. There are many testimonies on these products for different health issues but diabetes is one of them. I'm now an independent distributor for the company and trying to share my story with people, so people can help themselves feel better and be healthier. If anyone has additional questions, just let me know and I will try to help.

How do I find out which stem cell enhancer to use? I have been checking out several of these for a couple months but do not want to waste money on something not researched and proven. Many can be sold through distributors.  Thank you.
