Hi everyone
I have been with my partner almost 3 years, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was about 3, her diabetes is pretty well under control, although she does have the occasional hypo, but this is getting less and less these days.
I am starting to worry about her as she is slowly gaining weight and is finding it really hard to lose any, if I mention exercise, she says she can't do any due to her diabetes, basically everything boils down to her diabetes, I understand some of it would be, but I sometimes feel it’s an excuse for not doing somethings. She spends her days on the sofa in front of the TV and she does not have a job, she does do some housework, but that is about the most exercise she has, we live in a flat so she doesn’t climb stairs at all, sometimes she will spend the whole morning in bed, again, she claims this is her diabetes.
She doesn’t eat very unhealthy, but she does snack on crisps and drinks and a large amount of diet coke. Due to my work, which keeps me busy 24/7, we do sometimes have take always, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week, but sometimes we go for weeks without, I do try and cook as much as possible.
I think she is around a size 16 now and slowly gaining more weight.
I am worried as I think if she continues, she will be bed bound and unable to do anything and this surely must have some serious effect on her health. I have bought her a exercise bike and some exercise steps, but she doesn’t seem to use them and if she does, it isn’t helping much,
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Anything I say to her, she thinks is an attack on her.
