Can Vitamin E Prevent Complications?
Thirty people with diabetes who require insulin, matched for duration of disease and metabolic control, were sorted into three groups of ten each. One group was given a placebo, one group was given 600 mg of Vitamin E and the third group received 1200mg of Vitamin E daily for two months.
Results? No significant changes in blood sugar during the study but "glycosylated proteins decreased significantly after 1 and 2 months in patients on Vitamin E administration. People with diabetes who received the higher dose of vitamin E showed the greater reduction." Long-term studies are planned. (Diabetes Care, January 1991)
