Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Reading

  • Another method for the non-invasive reading of blood glucose levels was patented by Buchert, Janusz on Jan. 24.
  • The method uses the natural polarized luminescence of light emanating from sugar in the blood. The degree of polarization of blood is proportional to the concentration of blood glucose.

The instrument used in this detection will illuminate tissue with a monochromatic, polarized light, which will cause the blood to emit its native luminescent light. Then, this native luminescence would be picked up at a specified wavelength by the meter, and the proportion of polarized light would be determined. This proportion is then correlated to the amount of blood glucose. Patent No. 5383452.
