Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Reading
- Another method for the non-invasive reading of blood glucose levels was patented by Buchert, Janusz on Jan. 24.
The method uses the natural polarized luminescence of light emanating from sugar in the blood. The degree of polarization of blood is proportional to the concentration of blood glucose.
The instrument used in this detection will illuminate tissue with a monochromatic, polarized light, which will cause the blood to emit its native luminescent light. Then, this native luminescence would be picked up at a specified wavelength by the meter, and the proportion of polarized light would be determined. This proportion is then correlated to the amount of blood glucose. Patent No. 5383452.
- An anti-diabetes agent was disclosed by Kureha Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. The treatment contains a spherical carbon as the active ingredient. Unlike conventional insulin, the treatment can be used orally and will not cause hypoglycemia. Patent No. US 5380526.
New Insulin Prep Method
- An insulin preparation containing nicotinamide or nicotinic acid has been disclosed by Novo Nordisk A/S because it shows interesting pharmacological properties. Patent No. US 5385888.
- By looking at glycosylated hemoglobin in cells, it is possible to separate them into age-ordered groups and analyze the history of blood sugar metabolism over a period of several months. The method was disclosed by Chronomed, Inc. Patent No. US 5384239.
Measuring Glucose Levels
- A method of measuring glucose using electromagnetic energy and calibrations was disclosed by Edward W. Stark. Patent No. EP 0631137.
- A method of using cow's milk protein hydrolysate that does not contain allergenic proteins to induce cow's milk protein tolerance in children was recently disclosed by Sandoz Nutrition Ltd. The method would be useful in children susceptible to cow's milk allergy and in the prevention and treatment of children susceptible to diabetes. Patent No. (Not available).
- A method for stimulating insulin secretion by using a compound called glicentin was disclosed. Patent No. EP 0586812.
- Technology for a non-invasive blood glucose meter was disclosed by Sunshine Medical Instruments, Inc. Patent No. EP 0626819.
- A supportive shoe insert for use in supporting the insole, specifically for patients with diabetes, was disclosed by Jurgen Stumpf. Patent No. EP 0629361.
