Gushing with praise for the Glucometer

I am writing to share my experience with the Glucometer Elite blood sugar tester with your other readers.

A consistent problem with diabetics is the finger poke for blood testing. I am certainly no exception, but a couple of months ago I switched from a strip tester to the Glucometer Elite. The soreness to my fingers has actually disappeared.

This machine uses less blood for the five tests I do a day than my old one used for one test. I now use the smallest of lancets - I think it is .024 inches (.061 cm) in size. It doesn't have to go in as deep and I don't have to squeeze or milk my finger or make repeat punctures to get enough blood.

I think the test electrodes are a little more expensive than test strips, but it is worth it to me. I think it would be particularly great for small children.

Who really cares about the date?

I have been a subscriber for about a year and feel your Interview to be all I need so I canceled the others.

About the complaints on the dates of your papers -your material is not dated or tied to a holiday, so I feel that dates saying "Sept./Oct." received in late October is a bit redundant. I read the papers all the way through and get a wealth of information from them, but it matters not if it's the October issue received in January or not.

You've helped me more than anyone has. I've been a diabetic for almost seven years, am an insulin user and am doing pretty well.

Don't change - send the issues with numbers (instead of months) and then no one can tell the month.

North Dakota town needs a magazine like D.I.

Please send a sample copy of DIABETES HEALTH to the people at the addresses below. Both families have little boys 3 and 5, respectively, who have diabetes.

Best Magazine in 58 Years...

My husband has had diabetes for 58 years and this is the best magazine we have read.

This month (April) we were particularly interested in the articles on beef insulin vs. human insulin. My husband was better controlled with beef.

Jennifer and Jessica (our 4-year-old twins who have IDDM) don't realize how much improved their health is as a result of your efforts to educate and encourage the population affected by diabetes.

Anytime we go to visit a family with a newly diagnosed child, we take our latest issue of D.I. so they can begin gathering support and news at the onset of the journey through life with a chronic illness.

We would like to suggest an idea for our favorite part of your paper... Sugarless Humor. We would have drawn an accompanying comic but art is not our strong suit so we'll let you decide if it's do-able. The endocrinologist, in an attempt to check Jennifer's site rotation, asked her where she got her shots. With an incredulous look on her face and thinking that this should be quite obvious to anyone who deals with little girls and diabetes; she replied, "At my house."

(It was) not quite what the doctor had in mind but he learned to be much more specific with his questioning techniques and Jennifer learned that she had to pick another favorite place to get her injections because of the hypertrophy in her arms.

Thanks again for keeping us up on the world of diabetes so we can control as many of the variables of this disease as possible.
