Researchers tested Alaskan Eskimos and Indians in 15 different villages to determine whether their diet of seal oil and salmon influenced their risk of developing diabetes.
They discovered that daily consumption of these foods did have an effect. Seal oil and salmon, high in omega-3 fatty acids, appeared to lower their risk of developing impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes.
The study was published in the December 1994 Diabetes Care.
