Companies Collaborate to Achieve Implantable Insulin

MiniMed Inc., with its implantable insulin pump, and Medical Research Group LLC (MRG), with its implantable glucose sensor, recently reached an agreement in an attempt to ease an implantable insulin system into the U.S. market.

MiniMed sold MRG the operating assets of its implantable pump. In turn, MRG will be the implantable pump supplier solely to MiniMed. MiniMed also gets the option for exclusive marketing rights to MRG's implantable glucose sensors.

Already approved in the European Community, the implantable insulin pump awaits approval from the U.S. FDA.
