Strawberries and Chicken Legs Dancing Across Your Computer Screen?
Meals 'n Carbs is a new CD-ROM designed by two diabetes educators to help people plan their meals with diabetes management in mind. The CD-ROM begins with basic information about digestion, diabetes and carbohydrate counting for people recently diagnosed with diabetes. It then progresses to a meal planner, in which you use your mouse to add foods to a meal and print out your nutritional information.
To plan a meal by CD-ROM, you select breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, then it shows your allowable exchanges for that meal. You then add foods from a list of 350, dragging them to your plate. The total amount of carbohydrates for the meal appears at the bottom of your screen. Keeping in mind that each gram of carbohydrate raises your blood glucose level three to four points, you can adjust your diabetes care appropriately. Saving or printing meals allows you to cook your favorites again.
Carole Yass, MS, RD, CDE, and Jamie Dillinger, RN, BSN, CDE, developed the CD-ROM, which is an extension of the diabetes classes and counseling sessions they conduct at a hospital in suburban Philadelphia.
Meals 'n Carbs costs $89.95 plus $6.95 for shipping and handling. The Web site, mealsncarbs.com, can give you more information.Click Here To View Or Post Comments
