The KenTek Home Diabetic Aide makes it easier to get insulin into a syringe. It is particularly useful for people with vision problems, as it magnifies the insulin dosage numbers.
Brothers Andy and Ian Dawe of Orem, Utah, both registered nurses, developed the product because, in providing home care for people with diabetes, they noticed that many need assistance in loading insulin. The brothers say that their device saves people from accidental needle sticks, because the loading is done inside of the device.
Made from clear plastic and acrylic, the Home Diabetic Aide is shaped like an hourglass, with a tunnel on top for the insulin bottle and another hole at the bottom to insert any type of syringe. The needle then meets the insulin in the middle of the hourglass, and the syringe is filled with insulin.
