Podiatrists argue that moist-wound healing is of utmost importance for diabetic foot wounds to properly heal. According to Debashish Chakravarthy, PhD, head of consumer business development for Advanced Medical Solutions, a new bandage, called the Spyroflex, is specially designed to provide this type of healing environment.
The bandages can also be used to protect nerve endings, as well as skin that may potentially be wounded. People should not wear shoes that are too tight.
"If you get an acute injury—a cut or scrape that you are consciously aware of when it happens—the bandage will aid in healing," says Chakravarthy, who advises that people call their physician if they have a wound that refuses to heal.
