CDE Wins Award for Developing Place Mat with Nutrition Tips
Kelly Van Horn, RD, CDE, of Sammamish, Washington, received the Creative Nutrition Education Award from the American Dietetic Association for her innovative product that teaches educators and their patients about nutrition.
Called the Nutrition Place Mat for Diabetes, the two-sided, color-coded mat can be placed on a tabletop or used as a poster in the classroom. One side of the mat displays food graphics, and the other side has a list of different types of foods—called the Food List for Diabetes. This list is color coded to help users recognize the different types of food groups. A wipe-off pen allows the user to circle their food choices for each meal, then wipe them off afterward. The mat can be used for meal planning, weight loss and maintaining a nutritious diet.
To order the Nutrition Place Mat for Diabetes Education Packet, send $23.95 to Tabletop Nutrition LLC, 704 228th Avenue NE #352, Sammamish, WA, 98074.
For further information, call Van Horn at (425) 898-9431 or log on to www.tabletopnutrition.com.
