Foods With Added Soy Lowers Glycemic

If only all those high-carb foods like pasta and pastries weren't so high on the glycemic index, you could eat them more often.

Crum Creek Mills of Springfield, Pennsylvania, just may have found a solution to that ever-present problem of carb counting for people with diabetes. In their new line of soy protein products, some of the carbohydrates in foods are replaced with soy, making them easier on blood sugars, according to the company's press release.

Their Soy Protein Spaghetti, for example, has a glycemic index of 38—20 points lower than regular spaghetti. Some other low-glycemic products include breadsticks, pancakes and muffins.

The multitude of other health benefits of soy—such as lowering the risk of heart disease, lowering bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol in the body—have been heralded by the both Food and Drug Administration and the American Heart Association.
