Working in collaboration with diabetes health-care professionals at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, Kathy Jensen, RD, CDE, has produced the first in a series of programs designed to be available and affordable to families with diabetes.
Their first project, "Managing Diabetic Hypoglycemia," is a 26-minute video for teaching family members, friends, teachers, coaches and fellow employees of how to prevent, identify and treat mild, moderate and severe hypoglycemia.
According to Peter Chase, MD—the American Diabetes Association-recognized Outstanding Physician Clinician in Diabetes—every doctor's office and diabetes education center should make this video available for patients on insulin or medications that cause low blood sugars.
Sonia Cooper, president of the Children with Diabetes Foundation, says, "This is the best, least-costly training tool for families to share with relatives and teachers [that] I have seen."
"Managing Diabetic Hypoglycemia" can be purchased for 19.95 plus shipping and handling from amazon.com. To order by mail, send a $24 check or money order to Kathy Jensen, Diabetes Wellness Network International, P.O. Box 8357, Pueblo, Colorado, 81008.
