Diabetes Center Opens New Children's Camp Locations
The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., of North Oxford, Massachusetts, is offering a range of overnight and day camping experiences for children with type 1 diabetes and their families in locations throughout the northeastern United States. The center recently launched day camps in several satellite locations, including New York City's Central Park and the towns of Newton and Worchester in Massachusetts.
The Clara Barton Camp in Maine offers one- and two-week sessions for girls only between the ages of 6 and 16. The Barton Day Camp, with several satellite locations, serves both boys and girls ages 7 to 12. The Barton Family Camp is open to all family members. The camps feature outdoor sports, music and drama, cooking, aerobics, and a "positive approach to diabetes management"—closely tracking blood-glucose monitoring, for example, and offering education on insulin administration and meal planning.
Special events and activities include talent shows, campfires and a cookie bake-off.
In addition to the traditional camp experience, the center also offers several wilderness adventure camps—one for girls ages 13 to 17, one for girls ages 16 to 19 and a co-ed program for ages 14 to 17.
Programs take place throughout the year.
For more information or to register, contact the center by mail at Camp Administrator, The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., 30 Ennis Road, P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537; by phone at (508) 987-2056; or on the Web at www.bartoncenter.org.
