Device Destroys Syringes, Lancets and Pen Needles
Using a simple push of a button, people with diabetes can dispose of their syringes using a new portable needle-destruction device.
The Disintegrator Plus, manufactured by Perfecta Products of Berlin Center, Ohio, is designed for destruction of 3/10 cc, 1/2 cc or 1 cc insulin syringes as well as lancets and pen needles.
The Disintegrator Plus operates on a rechargeable battery. Heating to more than 2,500 degrees centigrade, it can disintegrate more than 40 needles between charges, ensuring the elimination of pathogens, viruses or potentially harmful bacteria. After using the unit, people with diabetes can dispose of the syringes as common household trash, says Scott Gorley, president of Perfecta Products.
The Disintegrator Plus costs $79.95. For more information, call (800) 319-2225 or log on to www.safeguardmd.com.
