Roche Diagnostics recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Web-based diabetes management program, known as the Accu-Chek Diabetes Assistant (available through the Web site www.accu-chek.com).
According to Roche, this free, interactive tool allows a user to store blood-glucose data and other information on the Web and can depict the data in graph or chart formats. Users set health maintenance goals based on input from their physicians, including target blood-glucose levels, diet and exercise. Individuals can then enter their readings manually or upload their data directly into their computers and into the Web-based program using an Accu-Chek Advantage or an Accu-Chek Complete meter.
Roche adds that users can e-mail the data they collect to their healthcare providers for assessment, which lets them receive immediate feedback on treatment options, if necessary.
For more information, go to Accu-chek.com, or call Accu-Chek Customer Care at (800) 858-8072.
