Yes, it's true—we are changing the name of our magazine
Yes, it's true—we are changing the name of our magazine.
The name Diabetes Interview has served us very well for over 13 years, but as we continue to broaden our editorial focus, we need a name that more accurately reflects our product.
Beginning with the June 2004 issue, Diabetes Interview becomes Diabetes Health!
It All Started with the Radio Show
Back in 1990, in San Francisco, we launched a live radio talk show called Diabetes on the Dial. Each week we interviewed doctors and other specialists about new developments in diabetes. Listeners called in with tough questions about treating their own diabetes. As our guests answered these questions each week, we were quite surprised that the answers differed so greatly.
Our audience loved the varied advice, and we learned that there was a huge need for cutting-edge diabetes information.
We discovered that there were as many approaches to treating diabetes as there are colors on a painter's color palette. Debates ensued even over the basics—like what to eat or what medicine to take.
Many of our guests were ahead of the research curve—they practiced innovative care like intensive therapy, which had not yet been proven beneficial. Our interviews helped us glimpse into the future.
Magazine Started
At the onset, we started transcribing and printing those radio interviews so others could benefit from the creative strategies presented on the show.
Because of this, we called the magazine Diabetes Interview.
The magazine quickly outgrew the radio show so a few years later we put all our energy into the magazine, and no longer produced the show.
Ours is the "little engine that could" story. We didn't know that 9 out of 10 magazines never make it. We said, "I think I can" for years before we ever broke even.
But we're dug in now, we're solid, and we are going to continue to use our influence like never before to bring you the best articles on making your life with diabetes easier, healthier and therefore more fun than ever. We want to help you to be successful at organizing and managing the diabetes parts of your life.
Why Change Our Name?
We have now outgrown the name Diabetes Interview. Our new name better identifies what you will find inside our magazine each month.
Diabetes Health embodies our broader editorial scope and our mission.
Personality
We know that navigating the diabetes medical system (which can include treatment options, medicines, doctors, insurance, hospitals, meters, pumps, islet and pancreas transplants, lab tests, and more…) is very complicated! Our solution to this maze is to provide you with innovative therapies to help you get through the daily challenges of living with diabetes.
Diabetes is frustrating, we know that. We see this chronic disease through your eyes. We want you to be informed as to what choices are available to you.
Diabetes Health is a consumer advocate magazine.
We all want to live complication free for as long as possible. The health choices we make today will determine the outcome of tomorrow.
We know that the most informed people make the best choices—that's why we're going to continue to keep you informed.
With our June issue, look for the new name on the cover, and a new look inside. We have more than a few great ideas on tap for the coming months. With the changes we have planned, you'll never want to put us down.
