Continuity of Care Improves Outcome Quality
An Italian study followed 3,437 patients for two years from 125 diabetes outpatient clinics and 103 general practice offices. A1C, blood pressure and cholesterol levels determined quality of care outcomes.
Those who used DOCs, especially those who were attended by the same physician who specialized in diabetes care, had the best statistical results. DOC patients also had better total cholesterol levels.
However, there was no major difference found in blood pressure levels or metabolic control as measured by A1Cs.
