New Hand-Held Device Measures After-Meal Energy Expenditure
The MedGem, manufactured by HealtheTech, is a new hand-held metabolic rate device that measures after-meal energy expenditure.
In a study comparing MedGem to a conventional indirect calorimeter (Delta-Trac), there was no difference in measured energy expenditure and after-meal energy expenditure.
Columbia University researchers say the MedGem provides a “new opportunity to assess [aftermeal energy expenditure] in research settings and large-scale trials.”
The MedGem is commercially available and can be ordered through healthetech.com/.
