Novo Awards Native American Nursing Scholarships

Novo Nordisk recently began awarding scholarships to Native American nursing students.

“The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize academic excellence and achievement among Native American nursing students and to inspire nurses to consider dedicating their careers to diabetes research, education and treatment in their own community,” says Novo.

In its first year, the Novo Nordisk Diabetes Scholarship Fund awarded two $5,000 scholarships to nursing students at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. The recipients were Kristin Aiken of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and Robin Johnson of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Scholarship winners were chosen based upon the students’ academic record and their commitment to serve native communities after graduation.
