First-Ever Television Show About Diabetes Now on the Air
• A grandmother in Tampa, Florida, who knocked her A1C down two percentage points
• A female bodybuilder on an insulin pump
• A 12-year-old who estimates that he has tested his blood glucose more than 100,000 times in the past three years
Their stories and photographs cover a wall in the New York City broadcast studios of dLifeTV—the first-ever weekly series for people with diabetes.
Anyone visiting the set of dLifeTV can see immediately that this isn’t your ordinary talk show. Here, the hosts test their blood glucose on the air and encourage audience members to do the same.
Like the hosts, the audience is comprised of people who have diabetes, along with their family members and friends. There are production assistants wearing insulin pumps and plenty of sharps disposal containers strategically placed.
A member of the crew points out a refrigerator to the audience, letting them know they can find juice there to treat lows or use it to store supplies. Even the catered spread for cast, crew and audience members consists of healthy food choices compatible with diabetes and is prepared by a chef with diabetes.
Howard Steinberg, dLifeTV creator and CEO of the company behind the show, understands how important it is to feel that you aren’t alone with your diabetes.
Steinberg has lived with type 1 since the age of 10. He says he was one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to learn how to manage his diabetes and to find the motivation to live well with it. His dream has been to give others the same chance. That dream has finally come true with dLifeTV, which airs every Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Central and 4 p.m. Pacific on CNBC.
Meet the Co-Hosts
The four co-hosts of dLifeTV come from diverse backgrounds but share a common challenge: diabetes.
Author and former Miss America (1999) Nicole Johnson Baker, who has type 1 diabetes; author and TV personality Mother Love, who has type 2 diabetes; comedian and co-host of the Tom Joyner radio show, J. Anthony Brown, who has type 2 diabetes; and actor Jim Turner of HBO’s “Arliss” and the upcoming movie “Bewitched,” who has type 1 diabetes.
All four share their stories about living with diabetes in the real world.
Real People, Real Stories
DLifeTV explores such topics as everyday living, healthy cooking, new diabetes therapies and exercise, along with the kinds of inspirational stories that keep us all going.
Celebrity guests like rapper Phife Dawg, boxing legend Joe Frazier and NFL player Kendall Simmons join the co-hosts on the couch for frank discussions about how they deal with diabetes. And both the in-studio and at-home audience share their stories through the dLife Wall—an area of the set covered with photos, personal stories and art from people across America who have been touched by diabetes.
From One Screen to Another
The dLife Wall extends to a virtual posting area at the dLife Web site, www.dlife.com. Here you can participate online to
If that isn’t enough, there is also the “dLife Diabetes Minute,” a nationally syndicated radio program featuring Bob Arnot, MD, author of “Dr. Arnot’s Guide to Turning Back the Clock” and many other titles, as well as the direct mail newsletter, dLifeConnect.
Tune in to dLifeTV on Sunday nights and get informed, inspired and connected with other people like you.
