Type 2s Not Getting Enough Vitamin D
Blood levels of vitamin D were studied in 459 individuals with type 2 diabetes and 459 nondiabetic controls. Vitamin D deficiency was higher in the diabetics than in the controls.

Food Sources of Vitamin D
- Milk, nonfat, reduced fat and whole, vitamin D-fortified, 1 cup
- Cod liver oil, 1 tablespoon
- Salmon, cooked, 3½ ounces
- Tuna, canned, packed in oil, 3 ounces
- Sardines, canned, packed in oil, drained, 1¾ ounces
- Ready-to-eat cereals fortified with 10% of the daily value for vitamin D, ¾ cup to 1 cup servings (servings vary according to brand)
- Margarine, fortified, 1 tablespoon
- Cheese, Swiss, 1 ounce
- Egg, 1 whole (vitamin D is found in egg yolk)
- Liver, beef, cooked, 3½ ounces
