A total of 600 pediatricians from the American Academy of Pediatrics were queried about testing high-risk infants and about universal newborn screening for cystic fibrosis, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD) and type 1 diabetes.
Eighty-four percent of pediatricians were supportive of newborn screening for cystic fibrosis while 58 percent were supportive of screening for G6PD. Only 25 percent, however, supported screening for type 1 diabetes.
