Models for Predicting Heart Problems in Type 1s Called Unreliable
Examination done to account for accuracy of currently available models
Current models for predicting coronary heart disease in type 1s are poor, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“Cardiovascular risk prediction models are available for the general population and for type 2 diabetes but may not be appropriate in type 1 diabetes,” write the researchers, “as risk factors including younger age at diabetes onset and presence of diabetes complications are not considered.”
An examination was done to account for the accuracy of currently available models for predicting coronary heart disease in type 1s. They argue that future research should focus on determining the risk factors accounting for the lack of fit and developing prediction models specific to this high-risk group.
