The diabetes research community was knocked on its ear when findings were published stating that any efforts to reduce the risk of developing type 2 should start with weight reduction.
A total of 1,079 participants with an average age of 50.6 years were evaluated. It was noted that “for every kilogram of weight loss, there was a 16 percent reduction in risk, adjusted for changes in diet and activity. Lower percent of calories from fat and increased physical activity predicted weight loss.”
In addition, increased physical activity was important to help sustain weight loss.
