In September 2006, Walmart Corporation announced a new prescription drug program that will offer a list of 291 generic drugs selling for $4 for a 30-day supply.
The program was launched in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. By January 2007, Walmart says, the program will be expanded to the entire state of Florida. The overall goal is to extend the program to all Walmarts nationwide by the end of 2008.
The generic diabetes drugs on the official list include:
In addition, several high blood pressure medications will be available, including the commonly prescribed ACE inhibitors Captopril, Enalapril, and Lisinopril, and beta blockers such as Metoprolol and Propranolol.
“These are medicines for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, colds, and infections—the kinds of medicines that working families need so they can treat illness, manage conditions, and stay well,” says Bill Simon, executive vice president of the Professional Services Division for Walmart.
