Dr. Rubino said that gastric bypass surgery had the most powerful anti-diabetic effect he had ever seen.
In March, Diabetes Health reported on Dr. Francesco Rubino, a surgeon who claims that the origin of diabetes is in the digestive system, not the gut, and that gastric bypass surgery cures type 2 diabetes.
Now Newsweek magazine has weighed in with an article on Dr. Rubino, explaining how he reached his conclusions and contrasting them with critical comments by diabetes experts who question his methods.
Rubino hopes to start two small trials in the U.S. in the future. He wants to test his theory on patients who are only moderately obese or just a little overweight, to find out what is causing type 2 in the 20% of people with diabetes who don't have 20 pounds (or more) to lose.
