Gary Hall is a ten-time Olympic medal winner who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999.
Gary Hall, Jr., an Olympic swimmer and ambassador of the Inspired by Diabetes program, will host a swim clinic in conjunction with Drew University's World Diabetes Day Swim-A-Thon on Saturday, November 15, 2008. The event, which begins at 10 a.m. with a two-hour clinic given by Hall, is followed by the swim-a-thon.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Gary Hall, Jr., Foundation for Diabetes, with a portion donated to the JDRF and Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Hall is a ten-time Olympic medal winner who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1999. He competed in two more Olympic Games and won six additional medals, including three golds, after his diagnosis.
In an event press release, Hall said, "Since being diagnosed...I have worked hard to control the disease rather than allowing it to control me. Opportunities to work directly with other people-especially kids-who have the disease or who are at risk of getting it inspires me, and it's my way to give back to this growing community."
Event exhibitors include: Eli Lilly and Company and Inspired by Diabetes, Becton Dickinson and Company, and the Gary Hall, Jr. Foundation for Diabetes. Inspired by Diabetes is a collaboration between Eli Lilly and Company, the International Diabetes Federation's Unite for Diabetes initiative and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
