Holiday Songs for Children with Diabetes

Dec 10, 2008

Sing to the heavens with your children about diabetes

Why not sing it out, sing it proud this holiday season! Singing songs with your children is always fun and if you get to both acknowledge the presence of diabetes and laugh at it a little at the same time, so much the better!

ChildrenWithDiabetes.com has some nifty songs for kids with diabetes posted here. You can't go wrong with lyrics (partial examples given, check out their website) such as:

Oh A1c
By Alissa Levenberg

Sung to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree"

...Oh A1c, Oh A1c, we've tried to stay in range
Oh A1c, Oh A1c, so it seems very strange
That when I download from her Flash
I see the spikes and then the crash
Oh A1c, Oh A1c, you shall this Mom derange

And...

Meter (Dreidel)
By Barbie Paulsen

...Chorus:
Oh, meter, meter, meter
I use it every day
And when I'm done with testing
I throw used strips away (Hah!)

And...

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
By Jane Hunsche

...All of the other children,
get to eat the cake and pie.
I have to check my glucose,
praying that it isn't high.
