A new food-oriented app is now available for people with diabetes: iEatOut Gluten & Allergy Free. The app, designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch. provides instant access to tips for safely eating out for people with food allergies.
iEatOut offers menu item choices configured to users' specific allergens, including corn, dairy, eggs, fish, gluten, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat. By viewing color-coded columns and menu item descriptions, users can quickly determine which dishes "contain" or "may contain" their allergen(s) of concern.
The app has information from three international cuisines, 86 common menu items and 79 ingredients, so it's possible for users to explore menu items in detail. It also offers tips on how foods are prepared and questions to ask servers.
iEatOut Gluten & Allergen Free costs $8.99. A free sampler of the app, called iEatOut LITE, is also available. For more information, visit Apple's iTunes Apps Store or go to allergyfreepassport.com.
