Diabetes Emergency Storage Cases
Utah-based Essential Preparedness Products (EPP) offers an emergency storage case for people with diabetes, called Diabetic med-EcaseTM. The yellow cases, made of high-impact material, are waterproof, airtight, and can float. Buyers of the $69.99 product receive foam inserts for both type 1 and type 2 needs and can outfit the case accordingly.
Standard contents in each case include:
◦ Glucose tablets
◦ Alcohol swabs
◦ Syringe/utility container
◦ Log book
◦ Ice pack
◦ Five empty medication bottles
◦ Seven-day pill dispenser
◦ Two diabetes type-specific foam inserts
The Diabetic med-EcaseTM does not include insulin, syringes, pen injectors, blood sugar meters, test strips (ketone or blood), or glucagon, but does provide compartments designed to contain them.
Company owner Jennifer Lindley says that she came up with the idea for a diabetes emergency case after seeing a news clip of a man stranded on the roof of his house after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. The man had spray-painted "diabetic" on his roof, indicating that he had run out of essential supplies.
The EPP company website is located at http://store.med-ecase.com/.
