Maryland-based Telcare, a mobile health app provider, is offering a free application for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users. MyTelcare Diabetes Pal, which synchronizes with the company's wireless blood glucose meter, allows diabetes patients and caregivers to see the readings sent to them by the Telcare BGM blood glucose meter. They can combine those readings with other patient data about medications, nutrition, and activities, thereby generating a comprehensive overview of their progress with the disease.
This introduction closely follows the January 2012 unveiling of Telcare's BGMTM blood glucose meter, the first FDA-approved cellular-enabled meter of its type on the US market.
The MyTelcare Diabetes Pal app not only allows wireless transfer of meter readings, but also shares results with healthcare professionals and family members. As a result, physicians sitting at their desks can review the readings of their diabetes patients, and mothers at work can instantly know how their diabetic children are doing with their blood sugar levels.
MyTelcare Diabetes Pal is also available to patients who don't have the Telcare BGM, who can enter their blood glucose data manually. The free app can be obtained from the Apple App Store at www.itunes.com/appstore or downloaded directly at http://bit.ly/yNeWix.
